Alegria Palms Dos Partners With PSEFI-SKILLS for the Cordova, Cebu Coastal Clean-Up Project

Cordova, Cebu --- Fifteen (15) volunteers from Primary Structures Corporation's (PSC) Site Management Department and Alegria Palms Dos Project  in Cordova, Cebu joined the Coastal Clean-Up Drive dubbed as, "Punit Basura sa Cordova," last Saturday, April 9, 2016. This is the first Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity initiated by one of the affiliates of the Primary Group of Builders, in collaboration with the Municipality of Cordova, Cebu.

PSEFI-SKILLS was represented by Engr. Teddy Taray, Ms. Mayline Lipnica and Ms. Michelle Salon. Everyone was happy with the turnout of the activity as Cordova's Roro Port was obviously swept clean and free of plastic after a little more than an hour of cleaning.

April 9 was actually a national holiday, with the entire country celebrating Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor), and people who want to enjoy the summer sun were flocking to the port since it is the jump-off point to go to the islands of Caohagan, Nalusuan, Pandanon, and Hilutungan. Pump boats kept on getting loads and loads of families who will be spending the day or the weekend in the islands off Northern Cebu.

The Admin-in-Charge of Alegria Palms Dos, Mr. Nerland Bulac and Mr. Dave Barangan, first met the PSEFI-SKILLS team at the admin office of Alegria before heading to the Roro port at around 8:30 am. After assembling at the terminal, they all set out to work!

Getting all the trash they can get their hands on
There were several big garbage cans and sacks given to all the volunteers where they placed all the coastal trash they can find. Most of the trash in the port were small light plastics, rubber, bottles and cans. It was such an experience for them to perform this outreach project under the simmering heat of the sun! But they did it! The "punit basura" ended at around 10:15 am.

This coastal clean-up project is meant to awaken in all of us the sensitivity we lack in maintaining cleanliness in our surroundings, especially in Cebu's top tourist spots --- our beaches. A further project with the Municipality of Cordova would be to help train and educate people to throw their trash in the garbage cans around the area, in order to totally refrain from polluting our coastlines. After all, we will all benefit from this good habit of putting trash where they should be.

PSEFI-SKILLS is looking forward to more initiatives that will highlight the corporate social responsibility (CSR) component of the Primary Group of Builders (PGB). Some examples of CSR initiatives around the world are mangrove planting, feeding programs in selected communities, marathon-for-a-cause, literacy programs, housing renovation, teaching how to do organic farming, sponsoring communities to build their livelihood by teaching skills for free: cooking, sewing, carpentry work, etc.
