Cebu City --- LINK Center for the Deaf, PSEFI-SKILLS' education partner in furthering the school's advocacy to train the Deaf in technical-vocational courses, visited seven (7) industry partners from the tourism sector to do a week-long evaluation and monitoring of the Gualandi-LINK scholars' progress last June 14-19, 2016, months after they graduated from the Housekeeping NC II course and passed the assessment of TESDA.
Ms. Carol Ui, President of LINK, sent three of their staff to conduct the said evaluation. Lesley Abuel, Jackie Velasco and Dianne Salazar diligently visited the following establishments: Allson's Inn, Circa 1900 and its new branch, Casa Dos, Travel Bee Hotel, Trattoria da Gianni, Big Hotel, Quest Hotel and Conference Center, La Marea Pastry Shop, and Hotel Pier Cuatro.

The visit first starts with an interview with the hotel or restaurant's operations manager or housekeeping supervisor, the ones directly on top of our Deaf graduates working in the establishment. This is followed by a Deafness Sensitivity and Awareness Class with a bonus Sign Language Class given by Dianne who is LINK's Deaf employee, and Jackie who does a reverse interpretation of what Dianne signs. The attendees of the classes did enjoy and showed much interest in learning more about communicating with their Deaf colleagues the next time they are given an opportunity. Before ending the session, all the attendees are given a laminated sign language alphabet bookmark, much to everyone's delight! All the more will the hotel and restaurant employees be encouraged to learn and use sign language in everyday operations, especially in the Housekeeping and Kitchen departments where most of our Deaf scholar-graduates are working. In all the companies we visited, we noted that really, having Deaf employees around is a welcome thing.
