PSEFI-SKILLS, one of the newest members of the League of Corporate Foundations (LCF), joined in the 20th year LCF celebration in Manila last July 13-15, 2016, actively participating in the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Expo and Conference.
LCF, a network of over 80 grant-making corporate foundations and corporations, marked its 20th anniversary and commitment to achieving the sustainable development goals (SDGs) at its annual expo on July 14-15 held at the Rizal Ballroom A and B of Makati Shangri-la Hotel in Makati City.
With the theme, "Co-Creating the Future through CSR," the 15th CSR Expo and Conference was both a celebration and call to action for the local business community to support the SDGs adopted by world leaders at a United Nations summit last year. The SDGs are 17 national government agendas to promote dignity, equality and prosperity for all people everywhere over the next 15 years.
Business and LCF leaders who attended the expo spoke about insights on the 17 SDGs and how stakeholders can contribute to attaining them.
"LCF recognizes that poverty is the greatest challenge to sustainable development and the indispensable requirement to solve it is to take transformative steps to shift or redesign policies, programs, and projects to a more sustainable and resilient path through collaborative partnership," LCF said in a statement.
PSEFI-SKILLS COO, Mrs. Paulette D. Liu, Executive Director, Dr. Maritess H. Requina, Marketing and Project Officer, Ms. Michelle C. Salon, and School Registrar and Training Focal, Ms. Rhea A. Cedeño, represented the foundation in this event. SKILLS had a booth at the expo where it featured the various technical-vocational training programs being offered in the school, a concrete poverty alleviation measure of the Primary Group of Builders
The 80-member LCF started as a network of non-government organizations (NGOs) and people's organizations in the Philippines in 1991. It became a non-profit association in 1996 and began accepting corporations with CSR programs as members in 1996.
The LCF promotes and enhances the effective practice of CSR among its members and the larger
business community by teaching CSR standards, best practices and benchmarking; sharing relevant information and trends; and building capacity and partnerships. To meet its vision and mission, LCF holds the annual CSR Expo and Conference for the Philippine business community.
The corporate foundations that also showcased their CSR programs in this year's Expo were: Bato-Balani Foundation, Meralco Foundation, Metrobank Foundation, SM Foundation, BPI Foundation, UCPB-CIIF, Manila Water Foundation, Villar SIPAG Foundation, CEMEX, Team Energy Foundation, Aboitiz Foundation, Unilab Foundation, Toyota Foundation, Philam Foundation, Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation, to name a few.
PSEFI-SKILLS hopes to continue its active involvement in LCF in the years to come.
