Senior High School Scouting: Looking Back, Moving Forward!

Team building at the Naga Valley Industrial Park (NAVA)
Cebu City --- PSEFI-SKILLS has committed itself to promote resilience and resourcefulness among its Senior High School students when it first launched Scouting last year, May 16, 2016. This project was proposed and implemented by no less than Primary Structures Corporation's President, Mr. William Liu, Jr. The student-participants were chosen during their enrollment after the interview conducted by SKILLS' Student Affairs Officer.

First-aid training

The scouts' training started with an orientation about the vision-mission of the school, an overview of the organizational chart of scouting, and the students' responsibilities.

A series of training with their corresponding applications were conducted during the intensive training conducted by Head Scout Master Marben Manabat. The scouts were taught the basics of first-aid, basic life support, reading of compass, different types of communication highlighting the use of radio and the use of Morse Code, fire-building, tent-making with the use of lashing and knot-tying. Part of their daily routine was the morning exercises conducted by Mr. Marison Donaire.

Formation

Last year, there were 12 students who joined as part of the scouts core group. This year, we have seen their number increase to 20! The scouts are in for both mental and physical training, with all the drills they have to go through.

Fire-making

The names of the scouts' troops were: Ginseng Tiger, Patrol Pepper Cat, Patrol Lime Eagle and Patrol Mint Fox. Their training last year culminated with an overnight camp, May 27-28, 2016, in one of the properties of the Primary Group, the NAVA or the Naga Valley Industrial Park located at Brgy. Cantao-an, Naga City.

This year, a team building activity is again being conducted here in SKILLS campus' grounds which started last May 16, 2017 to gear up for the coming academic year. Ms. Jackelyn Pino of the Human Resources Department of Primary Structures Corporation has conducted the said training together with Mr. Marben Manabat and Mr. Marison Donaire, Senior High School trainers. At the end of this month, they will be spending 2 nights again at the NAVA Industrial Park for more scouting training and drills.
