Manny Moreno was
one of the 128 housekeeping graduates of PSEFI-SKILLS last 2014. After the training, he was initially absorbed
as on-call performing as cleaner reliever to different PGB projects. Because of his utmost performance, he was
hired as full-time housekeeping attendant by PSEFI in 2015. Manny has been working in Garden Bloom Villa
of Primary Homes Inc. for four (4) years.
Family Background –
Manny was born in a
remote town of Surigao with his father working as a fisherman and his mother as
a housewife. His parents were blessed to
have eight children including Manny as the fifth child. As a little boy then, Manny witnessed how
difficult for his parents to provide their needs. He started to dream that someday, he will
provide a quality living and a better future for his family. With this mindset, Manny persevered in assisting
his parents for a living. He even
learned to catch fish just as his father.
With a very small amount earned from fishing, Manny thought of looking
for a better work opportunity. So from
his hometown, he ventured to Cebu hoping that he may find his luck. Though he was able to find a job, the wage he
earned was only enough for his living expenses.
While working full time, Manny did part time job as well.
At the age of 21,
he got married and was working with a manufacturing firm as contractual
employee. When the company decided for a
retrenchment, Manny went back to his hometown with his wife who was pregnant of
their first child. They stayed in Surigao
where Manny had tried fishing again as their source of income. Life there was just getting by. It wasn’t what Manny wanted for his family,
and his faith that they deserve something better, such as daily provision of food,
simple and decent house, and education for the children; helps him realize what
he has today.
Seven years later,
Manny and his wife decided to go back to Cebu.
They resided in Pulpugan, Consolacion where they were blessed to have
three more children. That time, Manny
was a production worker earning Php6,000 per month. He knew that this wasn’t enough so he kept on
looking for opportunity abroad but being away from his family gave him a second
thought.
Manny was
introduced to SKILLS training during the meeting of PANTAWID, a program of DSWD
where he and his wife are both members. He
took the free housekeeping training without knowing that it was his first step
to his seemingly elusive dreams. He
completed the training and passed the assessment. From then on, Manny had gradually been
accomplishing his wish list. For four
years, Manny has been receiving a regular income that provides his family’s
asawa. Ang kaning savings namo mao pud
among gihinay-hinay og tukod og amoang balay sa Consolacion.
Manny and his
family are always grateful to PSEFI-SKILLS.
If it is not because of the training, he could have not experienced the kind
of life now which he values as quality living.
When asked about
his learning in life, Manny simply said, “Walay
