Mrs. Paulette D. Liu, COO and Dr. Maritess H. Requina, Executive Director, represented PSEFI-SKILLS at the Anti-Poverty Summit launched by the Office of the Vice-President (OVP) last October 10, 2016, Sunday, held at the SMX Convention Center in Manila.

Introducing PSEFI-SKILLS to Sen. Bam Aquino

A report from the official website of the OVP mentions that over 50 local government units (LGUs) and a hundred non-government organizations and civil society groups participated in the Partnerships Against Poverty Summit 2016. This was the launch of Angat Buhay: The Anti-Poverty Advocacies and Program of the Office of the Vice-President. Among the 600 pledges made were livelihood programs, job opportunities, water systems and classrooms for the first batch of LGUs.

Vice-President Leni Robredo said that this program was her office's humble contribution to nation-building. "Whatever we are able to put together as collective platforms and road maps, I hope to offer to the President as our humble contribution to our shared desire to improve our people's lives," the Vice-President said in her speech.

initiative of VP Leni Robredo
From Angat Buhay's Newsletter, we read that, "the Summit, which marked VP Robredo's first 100 days in office, was also the first major event organized by the OVP for its partners and stakeholders. Despite global advancements in science, technology and industry worldwide, VP Robredo pointed out that the answer to eradicating poverty in the Philippines has remained elusive. The first step to fighting poverty, she emphasized, was meeting the country's poor and listening to their stories. VP Robredo reminded all those present of their potential to make real change happen."

"As a nation, we cannot be identified by what we are unable to do. Our potential tells more about us than our past inadequacies. I believe in our people. I believe in all of you," VP Robredo said.

PSEFI-SKILLS is set to continue its poverty alleviation programs for the years to come, heeding the call and the challenge of the OVP as seen through this anti-poverty summit.
