SKILLS Intramurals 2018

A three-day event was designed to provide the opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to participate in a recreational competition that aims to promote unity, camaraderie, passion, and sportsmanship with the theme: “Unity in Diversity through Sports”. The SKILLS Intramural Sports Program offered a variety of activities ranging from team sports, such as volleyball and basketball, to individual activities, such as chess, badminton and tennis. This activity took place last September 26-28, 2018. The first day started off with a parade of students, athletes, and participants from different teams followed by the lighting of the torch led by Jobert Costelo which drew a loud applause and cheers from the crowd. After the Oath of Sportsmanship represented by Arthur Maambong, the Dance Palabas Contest followed. Each team competed under zumba and cheer dance category depending on their year level. Highlighting the second day of the event was the first ever “SKILLS Pasikatay”

Joint Delivery Voucher Program

It's a hassle-free and friendly partnership program initiated by the Department of Education through D.O. 33 series of 2018 on the Joint Delivery Voucher Program (JDVP). This will provide a lot of assistance to our national high school students specifically the senior high school who would like to experience the actual laboratory equipment and world-class facilities by using the state-of the-art technology at the Technical Vocational Institutions (TVI) like SKILLS, Inc. Senior high school students will be taught holistically that includes technical knowledge, sufficient skills and well-rounded attitude as they prepare themselves for the real world of work in the industry. Teachers’ Day Celebration

    SKILLS, INC. joined the celebration of the 2018 National Teachers’ Month and National Teachers’ Day/World Teachers’ Day  from September 5 to October 5, 2018 with the theme, “Gurong Pilipino: Turo Mo, Kinabukasan Ko”. With the support of the school President, Ms. Paulette D. Liu, the school supervisor and the student leaders worked together in preparing for a surprise program to honor the teachers and trainers of SKILLS. Student presentations were all set as well as letters, cards, flowers, and messages of thanks before the culmination day.  In the morning of October 5, a Holy Mass was offered by Fr. Thomas Dunton of St. John (DS) to bless all the teachers and trainers. At exactly, 10:05 AM, SKILLS joined the simultaneous recitation of the “Prayer for Teachers” or the “Panalangin Para sa mga Guro” in celebration of the National Teachers’ Month. SKILLS SHS BUWAN NG WIKA CELEBRATION 2018

With this year’s theme,  “Filipino: Wika ng Saliksik” , SKILLS Inc. commemorated the Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa in August. It was celebrated with a variety of exciting and fun  “Larong Pinoy”.  Students played different Filipino games every Monday. To showcase the creativity of the senior high school students, a poster making and an essay writing contest were held simultaneously on August 17, 2018.   The month-long celebration culminated in a very festive mood with four major activities on August 31, 2018. In the morning, the “ Paluan ng Palayok ”  played as one of the “ Larong Pinoy ”. Classrooms were embellished with typical decorations to depict the “ Fiesta sa Nayon ”, as each class section prepared an assortment of native Filipino food and competed in the “ Unahan sa Pagkain ng Balut ” contest. AFOS PLUS Program In-Company Training MOA Signing

The 5th In Company Trainers’ Training, Assessment & Certification was held on August 3, 4, 10, 11, 17 & 28, 2018 at the Waterfront Hotel & Casino, Lahug, Cebu City. Its main objective is to capacitate company staff responsible for conducting training specifically re-training of existing staff, training for new employees, on the job training and training of apprentices and interns. The activity kicked-off with a MOA signing between SKILLS and partner companies to accommodate In-Company Training of AFOS K-12 Pilot and 1st batch SKILLS SHS graduates who passed the Basic Qualification Certification. Trainers Methodology I Culminating Activity

PSEFI-SKILLS would like to Congratulate the twenty-four (24) DepEd Teachers who successfully completed the Trainers Methodology 1 Class from May 7 to May 31, 2018. DepEd Asst. Regional Director, Dr. Salustiano T. Jimenez, together with DepEd Education Program Supervisor in Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) /Technical Vocational Education (TVE) & Edukasyong Pantahanan at Pangkabuhayan (EPP), Dr. Roland V. Villegas, and Education Specialist, Mr. Robert M. A two-day seminar on “Educators’ Seminar Workshop: Making Teaching and Learning More Effective and Exciting for 21 st Century Learners” was held on May 30-31, 2018at SKILLS campus. The resource speaker wasDr. Elsie Inocian- Ysatam, Director of EP. Inocian College Foundation, Inc. She has extensive experience in teaching and servesas consultant, visiting professor, researcher and administrator in various academic institutions. She has several engagementswith professional groups, most recently on the principles of teaching, curriculum development, phonetics and research. This training was participated in by SKILLS SHS academic personnel, tech-voc trainers and non-teaching staff. SKILLS attended the Industrial Solutions Seminar of GRUNDFOS Pumps System and Design

SKILLS Technical Director, Engr. Steve Y. Banzon, attended the Industrial Solutions Seminar of Grundfos, a known multi-national pumps manufacturer of  various types of  water pumps, from manufacturing plants and industrial buildings. Grundfos pumps are engineered to cover a broad range of applications and offers feature choices from fixed speed plug and pump sets to highly sophisticated systems for integration. The training covered topics on pumps set up and installation held on May 11, 2018 at Bayfront Hotel, Cebu City. SKILLS hopes to collaborate with Grundfos for the development of Competency-Based Learning Materials (CBLM) on Advanced Plumbing Training intended for its AFOS Plus Project, as well as future deployment of the AFOS trainees on pumps set up and installation.

Exploratory Visit of Habitat for Humanity International Asia Pacific

To explore about SKILLS curriculum particularly on construction labor upskilling, the team from the Terwilliger Center for Innovation in Shelter (TCIS) of Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) headed by Mr. Scott Merrill, Director for Market Systems and Entrepreneurship headquarters in Atlanta and Jennifer Oomen, Associate Director for Asia Pacific visited PSEFI-SKILLS last  May 31 , 2018 from 10:00am to 12:00nn. The meeting provided the team with better understanding of the dynamic nature of construction labor market in Cebu – its market trends, challenges, opportunities and the possibility of future collaboration with SKILLS. TCIS of HFHI aims to catalyze both the demand and supply side of the affordable housing market to achieve a vibrant housing ecosystem in the Philippines. 2-day Seminar Workshop on Case Management for Community-Cluster

The Social Welfare Development – Learning Network (SWD – LNET) under the Standard Unit of the Department of Social Welfare and Development conducted a 2-day Seminar on Case Management for Community-Cluster held on May 24-25, 2018 at the University of Southern Philippines Foundation, Lahug, Cebu City. Essential elements and processes on case management were thoroughly discussed. The said seminar was seen important to Registered and Licensed Social Welfare and Development Agencies (SWDAs) ensuring that beneficiaries receive services that are complementary to their needs. Licensed NGOs and Foundations providing social welfare services must ensure strict compliance on case management that foster not only dependency but instill empowerment among the people. A total of 16 member agencies participated in the workshop. PSEFI-SKILLS Executive Director, Dr. Maritess H. Requina, along with its Social Worker Ms. Carolyn M. Sulad attended the seminar.

Former PSEFI-SKILLS Housekeeping Graduate Works in PGB Affiliate and Starts to Live His Dreams

Manny Moreno was one of the 128 housekeeping graduates of PSEFI-SKILLS last 2014.   After the training, he was initially absorbed as on-call performing as cleaner reliever to different PGB projects.   Because of his utmost performance, he was hired as full-time housekeeping attendant by PSEFI in 2015.   Manny has been working in Garden Bloom Villa of Primary Homes Inc. for four (4) years.    Family Background – Manny was born in a remote town of Surigao with his father working as a fisherman and his mother as a housewife.   His parents were blessed to have eight children including Manny as the fifth child.    As a little boy then, Manny witnessed how difficult for his parents to provide their needs.   He started to dream that someday, he will provide a quality living and a better future for his family.   With this mindset, Manny persevered in assisting his parents for a living.   He even learned to catch fish just as his father.   With a very small amount earned from fishin

SKILLFULL BUILDERS: Ready to Face Life's Challenges

Graduation is one of the most important milestone in one’s life. It marks both an end and a beginning to a journey. SKILLS concluded its 1 st Commencement Exercises with a theme: “K to 12 Learners Ready to Face Life’s Challenges” held on April 12, 2018 at CAP Building, Jones Avenue, Cebu City. The first batch of SHS TVL graduates were composed of 125 students in Home Economics and Industrial Arts. One of the messages delivered by Dr. Bianito Dagatan, DepEd Schools Superintendent Cebu City Division, he underscored that the K to 12 graduates are now ready to explore the many opportunities outside of school: Handa sa Kolehiyo; Handa sa Trabaho; Handa sa Negosyo and soon to be Handa sa Pamilya. But he discourages the latter to give more priority in honing their skills, abilities and values in order to be ready in the face of competition. SM Tech- Voc Scholars Graduate

  A total of 60 SM Foundation scholars recently graduated from SKILLS in Cebu City. The scholarship provided by SM Foundation is in line with its mission of helping underprivileged but deserving high school graduates pursue college education. SM Foundation honored its commitment to assist financially-constrained students with their education by strengthening its Technical-Vocational Scholarship Program. The program is part of its contribution to the government in reducing the education gap and providing thousands of underprivileged youth a formal, if not technical-vocational education, for them to become productive citizens of the communities where they belong.

1ST Senior High School TVL Jobs Fair

The  Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) together with the members of the private sector has formalized a partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) to support classroom-building efforts through “Bayanihang Pampaaralan” (BP) that was launched in 2011. BP is an initiative of the 57-75 Movement pushing for the construction of 10,000 classrooms  in two years . It aims to consolidate classroom building efforts and direct funds to the construction of classrooms in areas that need the most assistance. The project encourages coordination of private sector efforts in education to help avoiding duplication of efforts and to rationalize funding for projects. From the experience, BP discovered that providing classrooms is not sufficient to meet desired its outcomes like improvement in academic performance so the consortium decided to rethink and expand its focus, and specify a focus intervention with focused results. Educational Tour with Cagayan De Oro College and University of Bohol

Educational tour is an essential activity among college graduating students where they gain actual insights of the current industry practices. The Foundation welcomed its participating schools , Cagayan De Oro College and University of Bohol, comprised of 100 students taking Architecture, Electrical and Civil Engineering courses. Part of the tour was a visit to Primary Structures Corporation’s construction sites – 888 Acacia Mass Housing and STC Building Extension. These young aspiring Engineers and Architects learned as well some methods and techniques in construction conducted by the Project-in-Charge held on  February 3 and 7 , respectively.
